In NSW, all vehicles must have a valid safety certificate, also called a pink slip, before they can be registered. A safety certificate verifies that a vehicle has been inspected and is safe to drive on NSW roads. A blue slip is required for vehicles that have never been registered in NSW or for vehicles that have been registered in another state or country.

It’s New South Wales Law to get a Pink & Blue Slip Check

As per New South Wales legislation, once a car hits five years old, it needs to be serviced and roadworthy prior to registration; this process takes around 30 to 45 minutes. What Is a Blue Slip/Auvis Inspection?

A Blue Slip is required when an interstate vehicle is being transferred to NSW registration or when an NSW-registered car has expired by more than three months. Put simply, a Blue Slip is very similar to an e-safety check, but a vehicle ID check and design check are also required.
What Does This Mean?

This means the examiner verifies the factory stamped numbers on the chassis/framework, and the engine number stamped location to update RMS records.
What Happens Now?

Once your Blue Slip has been issued, simply take it to your local RMS or SERVICE NSW along with a supporting ID, and your new registration will be issued.
